Captain Matt Whitney
As a young boy I was lucky enough to go to work with my dad on the boat meeting people and enjoying Lake Michigan. Learning both the business and the fishing with my dad for the last 40 years, I’m committed to doing everything I can to ensure your trip is a memorable one. I am fortunate enough to have been able to purchase the business from my dad and with continued support from my parents and the help and support of my own family, we look forward to serving you for the next 40 years.
Captain Alex Whitney
Since the ripe old age of three, Alex has been my fishing partner. He spent the last 13 years working for me and my dad as a 1st Mate but recently joined the ranks as a USCG licensed captain. My dad and I consider him the Jr. Captain when we’re on board though so he still does the bulk of the work just as he has in the past. With the exception of a few days he takes off to fish tournaments or go fun fishing with friends, you’ll find Alex on the boat eager to help you enjoy your day on the water with us. As a young man of 22, he already has a respectable track record in tournaments with two firsts and one second place finish he is willing to share all of his fish catching knowledge to help you land your fish. Besides attaining the rank of Captain this year, Alex was awarded the Carnegie Hero award for his part in saving the life of a young man struggling in the surf of Lake Michigan at Grand Haven State Park during the summer of 2009.
First Mate Sam Whitney
Following in the footsteps of Alex is my younger son Sam. Sam began chasing fish of all kinds as soon as he was able to hold a fishing pole and he hasn’t slowed down a bit. Sam has had the advantage of being able to fish for fun a great deal over the years as the working positions have mostly been filled by his older brother but he’s always been involved helping out with the business. Many of you have met him at the dock where he helps with cleaning and bagging your catch and then assists us in getting the boat ready for the next trip. Over the last couple of seasons though his working hours on the water have increased and he’s now an excellent, hard working mate. Born with the gift of gab like most of us Whitney’s, he loves to discuss fishing and will be right there with the tips to help you tackle the big one. Sam also has the vocal ability to bring everyone out their relaxed state and ready to go to battle when he yells “Fish on!”
